#OnThisDay in 1963, a bomb planted by the Ku Klux Klan ripped through the 16th Street Baptist Church, in Birmingham, Alabama, killing 4 little girls—11-year-old Carol Denise McNair, and 14-year-olds Carole Robertson, Cynthia Diane Wesley and Addie Mae Collins—and injuring several others. This atrocity marked the third bombing in 11 days in Birmingham, Alabama, following the federal court order integrating Alabama schools.
