The cover-uncover test is used to identify eye misalignments (strabismus) and deviations. It helps differentiate between tropias (manifest deviations) and phorias (latent deviations). By covering one eye and observing the movement of the uncovered eye, clinicians can detect if an eye is drifting inward, outward, upward, or downward. This test is crucial for diagnosing and monitoring conditions like strabismus and can be used to assess the effectiveness of treatments. How the Test is Performed: 1

Use of Maddox Rod (in simple ophthalmic terms): The Maddox rod is a subjective test used to assess ocular alignment and detect heterophoria or tropia. Main Uses: Detection of phoria and tropia Helps identify latent squint (phoria) and manifest squint (tropia). Measurement of horizontal deviation Used for esophoria / esotropia and exophoria / exotropia. Measurement of vertical deviation Helps detect hyperphoria or hypophoria. Breaks binocular fusion Converts a point light into a line, preventing
