Sakeik was released Monday from the Prairieland Detention Center. She had been arrested in February while returning from a honeymoon trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands with her husband. Although the islands are a U.S. territory, she was flagged by Customs and Border Protection upon reentry.

On Tuesday night, Ward Sakeik, 22, walked out of the Prairieland Detention Center — an ICE facility located less than an hour’s drive south from her Arlington home — and into the embrace of her husband, 28-year-old Taahir Shaikh.

The woman was detained by immigration officials in February as she returned from honeymooning with her new husband in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
