Rumors spread online Friday that the U.S. government will soon be issuing stimulus checks to taxpayers in certain income brackets.

Online posts claim the IRS is set to send $1,390 stimulus checks to low- and middle-income taxpayers by summer’s end. The IRS says that’s false — and explains why no payments are coming.

Stimulus checks were issued in April for taxpayers who did not receive the pandemic relief payments in 2021. While most taxpayers received checks during the pandemic, those who did not were eligible to file for a $1,400 payment through the IRS' Recovery Rebate Act.
