A motorcyclist died after a crash with a car on Interstate 5 in Tacoma Thursday afternoon. State patrol troopers were dispatched to the highway near South 56th Street for the crash at around 2:24 p.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

While drivers flooded Seattle's streets to make their way around the region's closed highways, a group of people advocated for lidding Interstate 5 to hide the highway and dampen the noise.

KALAMA, Wash. — A wildfire broke out along Interstate 5 in the southwest Washington city of Kalama on Thursday afternoon. The Cowlitz County Department of Emergency Management first reported the fire at about 1:45 p.m. near North Hendrickson, to the west of Interstate 5 along the Columbia River.

A crash is blocking the left lane of northbound Interstate 5 traffic just south of Iowa Street in Bellingham, according to a social media post from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) at 2:04 p.m. Aug 22. The incident was first posted to social media at 1:39 p.m.

Traffic was moving only in the left lane, with backups stretching more than 1.5 miles as of 8:50 p.m. Emergency responders were at the scene.

Initial post: A crash on northbound Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome is causing traffic backups Wednesday afternoon. The crash at milepost 134.6 began at 2:07 p.m. near East L Street., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

A motor vehicle crash has traffic snarled up in the area of southbound Interstate 5 and the Highway 126 interchange, according to Tripcheck.com.

Oregon State Police responded to a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Interstate 5 early Sunday morning.

A paving project will close all lanes of Interstate 5 in Bellingham on Tuesday and Wednesday night, the Washinton State Department of Transportation said. Signed detours will be in place, WSDOT tweeted Tuesday morning: Northbound I-5 will close from Sunset Drive to Meridian Street from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Caltrans cautioned drivers to expect delays and watch for workers on Interstate 5, Highway 44 and Highway 273 bridges in Shasta and Tehama counties.
