HOUSTON - The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for much of the Houston area as heavy storms are set to begin to move into the area overnight until 5 a.m. Sunday morning. A storm system is set to move in, bringing potential for heavy rain and severe weather starting overnight tonight into Saturday morning.
Winds up to 40 mph are possible with these storms, as well as small hail. Heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding. Storms have the potential to intensify as they push further into Southeast Texas through the rest of the night. It is advised to stay in a safe location until the storms pass.
Houston anticipates heavy rain and thunderstorms on Saturday, with a 90% chance of precipitation, possible street flooding, and 1-2 inches of rain forecasted. Conditions may disrupt outdoor activities.
Houston is bracing for the worst as forecasters warn of strong storms and severe weather expected to pound the city Friday night, bringing the threat of heavy rain, lightning, and potential flooding through Saturday morning.
