A brief warm-up will bring Chicago-area temperatures into the 20s before more rounds of snow, and Arctic blast and wind chills as low as -35 degrees

A Cold Weather Advisory was in effect Monday morning as Arctic air sends temperatures crashing to dangerous lows.

Chicago faces subzero wind chills and snow showers, with temperatures dipping below 23 degrees and wind chills as low as -10 degrees.

A heavy band of wind-whipped snow made for near white-out conditions and prompted a snow squall warning for several Chicago-area counties Wednesday morning, but just how much snow is expected to fall?

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Bands of lake-effect snow are forecast to continue in Northwest Indiana Thursday. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Porter County until noon. ABC7 Accuweather Meteorologist said an additional one to three inches of snow is possible. The lake-effect bands are also generating poor visibility.

Wind chills of up to 15 degrees below zero hit the Chicago area Tuesday morning, with the National Weather Service warning of “extreme cold temperatures” throughout the day.

Northwest Indiana could see over six inches of lake-effect snow by Thursday morning, while a snow squall snarled Chicago's Wednesday morning commute.

According to NBC 5 Storm Team 5 Meteorologist Alicia Roman, the quick-moving system will last through at least 7 a.m.
