The most famous blizzard of course was in February of 1978. Snow fell for two days, piling up more than 30 inches in some areas and blowing snow created drifts much deeper than that. Cars and trucks were stranded on major highways and dozens of people lost their lives.
The winter storm is expected to gain strength as it moves northeast off the East Coast on Saturday, bringing snow north from the Carolinas to New England into Sunday. The eastern half of the U.S. will also continue to experience frigid temperatures into next week, according to the National Weather Service’s Prediction Center.
A crippling winter storm that could paralyze parts of the Southern and Central U.S. this weekend, and some of the effects could reach southern New England.
