Mother shot, killed by son in Nevada County; attacker dies following police chase, sheriff says
A man suspected of attacking another person and then leading law enforcement on a short chase on his motorcycle Friday died by suicide, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office said.
The city spends more than $500,000 a year on ShotSpotter, plus millions in labor costs, but data show few arrests or firearms recovered.
A man was fatally shot early Sunday morning near downtown Sacramento, according to police reports. Just before 2 a.m., Sacramento officers were dispatched to the area of Blues Alley and 12th Street where officers located a man with at least one gunshot wound, said Sacramento Police Department spokesperson officer Allison Smith.
A man who was severely injured in a drive-by shooting last week in Sacramento has died of his injuries, and the sheriff criticized a California mental health law that allowed the suspect to be freed following prior convictions.
Court, jail and public records indicate the man, 41, was arrested and later sentenced in June for felony arson.
