Air Canada said it will gradually begin restarting its operations after strike action grounded its flights since August 16. It said the first flights are scheduled for Tuesday evening, but that it could take seven to ten days to restore its full service, and that some flights will be cancelled during that period.

Air Canada flight attendants said Tuesday they had reached a "tentative" deal with the airline to end a strike over wages and ground work that has cancelled travel for half a million people worldwide.

Air Canada and the union representing 10,000 flight attendants resumed talks late Monday for the first time since the strike began over the weekend. The strike is affecting about 130,000 travelers a day at the peak of the summer travel season.
