Ultra-Luxury Jaguar Type 00 Production Car Is Delayed
Jaguar’s bold shift to electric power hits a roadblock as its first of three new EVs is pushed back amid production setbacks.
Jaguar's luxury SUVs, like the F-Pace and smaller E-Pace, were caught by the luxury German marques and soon surpassed. As a result of these missteps, sales plummeted. In the US, sales of 40,000 in 2017 fell to 17,000 in 2021, and slipped to under 10,000 by 2022. Europe was even worse, with only 49 cars sold there in April 2025.
Jaguar’s controversial new electric car has been spotted being tested a year ahead of its expected launch date. The new Type 00 was seen undergoing a rigorous testing programme at the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife .
From launch in 2011, both six and eight-cylinder options were available, all running a "Twin Vortex" supercharger to blast compressed air into the engine beneath it. This approach gave even mainstream Jaguar XJs a notable performance character, and high-performing V8-powered models mountains of thrust and a signature soundtrack.
While we knew the XJ was almost complete, Callum revealed the company was also working on an assortment of other models, including a new F-Pace crossover. Jaguar was also developing an all-new J-Pace, which was roughly the size of a Range Rover, and a new sports car, which would likely become an F-Type successor.
