After days of struggles through the hostile deep Atlantic – barely holding on most of Thursday as a naked low-level cloud swirl – Gabrielle is staging a comeback today that should take it to hurricane strength before the weekend is out.
The National Hurricane Center has increased the odds that the eastern Atlantic tropical disturbance will develop into a tropical depression or Tropical Storm Gabrielle. They put the chances of development over the next week in the high category.
The hostile upper winds and dry air that have been keeping Tropical Storm Gabrielle from organizing are slowly letting up, though the system hasn’t intensified yet.

Gabrielle is moving west-northwest at about 15 mph, located well east of the Caribbean. Expect little change in strength through the next couple of days, but the system could find more favorable conditions late this weekend and early next week, allowing for some strenghthening and it could become a hurricane as it nears Bermuda by Monday.
