Keir Starmer’s Labour Party has suffered a local byelection defeat in a traditional Welsh stronghold, losing Caerphilly for the first time in any election in a century to the nationalist party Plaid Cymru.
Under the proposals - which were made in the Plaid Cymru manifesto for the 2021 Senedd elections - aims for only half of all journeys in Wales to be made by car by 2030, with the remainder shifting to public transport, walking, or cycling. The party's manifesto for the 2026 election has not yet been released and may have different policies.
