Mike McDaniel choosing a coordinator role over a head coaching opportunity sends troubling signals about the Browns' job appeal.

McDaniel was head coach of the Dolphins from 2022 to ‘25. He led the team to the playoffs in each of his first two years at the helm but missed out in both of the last two seasons. Overall, he went 35–33 in Miami, and now will look for a fresh start in a new organization.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chargers are hiring former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to take over as offensive coordinator. McDaniel worked with Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, and he'll now work with the No. 6 pick, Herbert, in Los Angeles.

It's been a busy offseason already for the NFC East. The New York Giants hired a new head coach, the Washington Commanders needed two new coordinators, the Philadelphia Eagles needed an offensive coordinator, while the Dallas Cowboys are searching for a defensive coordinator.

To date, McDaniel has interviewed with the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and the Baltimore Ravens for their vacant head coaching jobs, as well as with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Detroit Lions for their offensive coordinator jobs.
