The European Union has agreed on a new raft of sanctions against Russia targeting its shadow fleet of oil tankers and banning its imports of liquefied natural gas, the Danish EU presidency announced Thursday.

President Donald Trump on Monday took aim at Russia’s announcement that it has tested a nuclear-powered missile that can go more than 8,000 miles, telling President Vladimir Putin that he “ought to get the war ended” instead.

European Commission Chief Spokesperson Paula Pinho told reporters in Brussels on 27 October that proposals from the Commission to cover Ukraine's financial needs in 2026-2027, ahead of the next European Council meeting on 18 December,

Debt-ridden and challenged around the world, the U.S. should encourage Europe to defend itself. In recent days, top officials in France and Germany warned of looming confrontations between NATO and Russia.

This year, imports of Russian energy actually increased in seven major European countries after over three years of war.

Only Russia friendly Hungary and Slovakia, refused to back the bill, which terminates Russian pipeline and liquified natural gas imports.

Russia reacted with outrage after the United States sanctioned its two largest oil companies, the first economic punishments slapped on Moscow by President Trump during his second term.
