Former Detroit Pistons star Chauncey Billups is facing charges in connection with a scheme to rig poker games that were backed by Mafia families, officials said.
Billups took some time off from basketball before beginning his coaching career in 2020. He first was hired by one of his former teams the Clippers to work as an assistant under Tyronn Lue. He was only in Los Angeles for one season before the Trail Blazers hired him.
According to the FBI, Billups and former Cavs guard Damon Jones were used by the Mafia as “Face Cards” to lure high rollers to play poker. The indictment against him states those games date back to 2019 involving Billups.
