After dropping their season opener to the 76ers on Wednesday (Oct. 24), Boston will be doubly motivated to beat a banged-up New York squad.

For the Celtics, that series brought more pain than they could have anticipated, with Jayson Tatum’s torn Achilles only worsening the sudden end to a championship defense. Given the opponent, Wednesday’s trip back to the famous arena meant a little extra to the returning Boston players.

The Celtics held the Knicks to 38.4% shooting and outscored them in three of the four quarters, but defensive rebounding was a persistent issue. New York grabbed six offensive boards in the third and seven more in the fourth, leading to second-chance opportunities that prevented Boston from overcoming a lopsided second quarter.

The Celtics have yet to win after two games and suffered a 105-95 loss to New York despite getting some valuable insight from former Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau. Brown, who said he appreciated the intel, made several late buckets late in the game; however, his contributions weren’t enough to get his team over the line.
